Federico Garcia Lorca
In Search of Duende
"Let us agree that one of man's most beautiful postures is that of Saint Sebastian.
Well then, before reading poems aloud before many creatures, the first thing one must do is invoke the duende.
That is the only way that everybody will immediately succeed at the hard task of understanding metaphor (without depending on critical apparatus or intelligence)
and be able to catch, at the speed of the voice, the rhythmic design of the poem."

Welcome To The Flamenco Poets Society
The Flamenco Poets Society is an organization dedicated to promoting an appreciation and understanding of "Latin American and Spanish poets and the Flamenco Arts".
Poetry is a passion for sharing our experiences of love, humanity, honor, death and reminiscences. The Flamenco Poets Society strives to convey the emotions of these poets who have recorded their experiences through poetry. Our readings have taken place in different locations in Houston.
We present two readings per year, and our guest readers have passionately presented bilingual programs featuring the works of Federico Garcia Lorca, Pablo Neruda, Ruben Dario, Gabriela Mistral, the Anthology of Flamenco Poetry, Pablo Neruda Centennial Celebration, Julia de Burgos, Sor Juana Inez de la Cruz, José Gorostiza, Octavio Paz, The Festival of Latin American Poets, César Vallejo, Rosario Castellanos, Kyra Galván & our local talented storytellers.
